WORKSHOP SECRET
The Pelican Armchair clearly reveals Finn Juhl's attraction to surrealism. With this armchair, he also demonstrated a great deal of avant-garde. When it was unveiled at the Copenhagen cabinetmakers' exhibition in 1940, it surprised with its singular silhouette and solid legs.
Finn Juhl usually named his creations according to the year in which they were designed, but the nickname ‘Pelican’ became established over time. Only a few examples were made, and the chair was almost forgotten until it was reissued by House of Finn Juhl in 2001.
Finn Juhl, one of the greatest Danish designers of the 20th century, was renowned for his bold approach to design. The Pelican armchair is one of his most emblematic creations, demonstrating his talent for creating furniture that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.
