WORKSHOP SECRET
The "Lilla Eva" armchairs are an integral part of the iconic Paradise collection—an enduring and timeless line imagined by renowned Swedish designer Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist during her collaboration with the prestigious department store Nordiska Kompaniet in the 1950s. This collection, both elegant and strikingly modern for its time, perfectly embodies the soft, organic aesthetic of post-war Scandinavian design.
The name Paradise is derived from the Swedish word Paradiset, meaning "paradise" or "Eden." It reflects the designer’s ambition to create furniture that is harmonious, inviting, and conducive to well-being. The "Lilla Eva" model, in particular, brings this vision to life with its graceful curves, enveloping comfort, and refined silhouette.
Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist was a leading figure in Swedish design, celebrated for her refined and timeless furniture creations. Born in Arvika, she studied at Konstfack, Stockholm’s renowned school of arts and design. Her career gained momentum in the 1950s, especially through her work with Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), where she designed iconic collections such as Paradiset.
Known for her deeply human-centered approach, she skillfully combined comfort with aesthetic elegance. Throughout her career, she collaborated with prominent Scandinavian designers and left a lasting legacy that continues to influence modern design today.
