The tradition of Christmas socks has its roots in the story of St. Nicholas. One day, three sisters, living in great poverty, left their wet socks to dry by the fireplace.
St. Nicholas, moved by their plight, decided to help them by throwing three bags of gold down their chimney. The coins fell into the hanging socks. That's how this Christmas custom came about.
