Tavoli Verdi e figura piegata blu stellata
Cavallo su cerchi con figura barbuta tra le zampe – Carlo Zinelli
On the front of Carlo Zinelli’s work, the composition centres around a large butcher’s block in olive green and black. The space is saturated with handwritten inscriptions, rhythmic and repetitive. Sounds, onomatopoeias, and fragments of words spiral around the forms.
On the reverse, the narrative continues with the stylised figure of a large ochre horse, accompanied by a human silhouette. The dense inscriptions interweave sounds, letters, and recurring patterns. A palette dominated by red, olive green, ochre, and blue structures the space and heightens the work’s dramatic tension. Carlo Zinelli®

WORKSHOP SECRET
In the hidden and secret place of the Norki workshop lies a double-sided canvas by the artist Carlo Zinelli—
a bold, artistic choice, infused with the painter’s singular spirit and imagination.
The canvas is awash with foam of every kind—some grand, others delicate, their shapes shifting from straight to wildly irregular, like echoes of an untamed inner world.
In keeping with Carlo Zinelli’s unique universe and with a desire to break free from the rigid codes of gallery “podiums,” we have chosen to bring this work to life in our own way, using the tools and gestures that shape the daily rhythm of our workshop.
CARLO ZINELLI (1916 – 1974)
Born in 1916 near Verona, Carlo Zinelli lost his mother at the age of two and began working early in life. In 1934, he moved to Verona to work as a butcher’s apprentice while nurturing his love for drawing and music. Drafted into the Spanish Civil War in 1939, he returned home deeply traumatized after only two months. Diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, he was institutionalized in 1947. In the hospital, Zinelli began creating art, initially on the walls. In 1957, he joined an art studio led by Michael Noble, producing nearly 2,000 works until his death from pneumonia in 1974. Today, he is considered a major Art Brut artist.
