In the heart of the Haute-Tarentaise, where peaks meet the sky at 1,850 meters, Val d’Isère stands as the epicenter of authentic luxury. With its massive stone chalets, lauze-stone roofs, and Baroque church, the resort cultivates a mineral yet warm aesthetic. Within this snowy theater—a winter “Mecca of skiing” and a verdant summer sanctuary in the Vanoise National Park—lies an exceptional establishment: Les Barmes de l’Ours.

Opened twenty years ago, this Relais & Châteaux—recently awarded a prestigious Michelin Key—redefines the art of hospitality. Its name, a tribute to the protective “dens” (barmes) of the mountain’s bears, sets the tone: a cocoon of serenity. The interior architecture, orchestrated by the incomparable cabinetmaker-poet Christophe Mattis, emphasizes the nobility of raw materials. Under the majestic Bellevarde Rock, the 76 rooms and suites, along with the 1,000 m² Sisley spa, invite a tactile contemplation.

Norki’s expertise was called upon to perfect the sensory harmony of the hotel. In our workshops, each piece was designed as a punctuation of comfort and sophisticated design:
Culinary Comfort: For the restaurant La Fromagerie, Norki crafted bespoke banquettes, blending ergonomics with Alpine aesthetics, inviting guests to linger after a day on the slopes.
Contrast and Texture: Exclusive armchairs pair the opulence of long-haired white sheepskin with vibrant orange velvet—the hotel’s signature hue. This dialogue between natural fiber and silky textile perfectly embodies the spirit of the project.
Bespoke Leisure: The exclusive game tables, centerpieces of the lounge, feature tops clad in high-end leather, supported by deep-lacquered bases.
Prestigious Accents: A constellation of sheepskin cushions and carefully placed pelts enhance the “hygge” and luxurious atmosphere of the communal spaces.
Through this collaboration, Norki reaffirms its mastery of textures and its ability to engage with the most demanding architectures.
